Why take voice lessons?

If you or your child want to sing with more confidence, expand your range, or simply enjoy singing on a deeper level - voice lessons can benefit you! Everyone could learn something from voice lessons and should feel welcomed to explore their voices. After all, we use our voices every day!

Here are some reasons people take voice lessons. ⇩

  • Voice lessons are all about enhancing your singing skills! Lessons focus on key areas including range, tone, breath control, articulation, projection, performance techniques, and essential music fundamentals. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced singer, personalized coaching helps you refine your abilities and grow as a vocalist.

  • Do you have an upcoming audition for a musical, choir, or educational opportunity? Voice lessons can help you refine your technique, build confidence, and get valuable feedback before you step into the audition room.

  • If you (or your child) sing regularly for performances, vocal health should be a top priority. Voice lessons help students understand healthy ways to achieve their desired sound, along with longterm vocal health strategies for longevity.

  • Voice lessons can deepen one's appreciation and understanding of music. I am passionate about expanding students’ knowledge and appreciation of music by helping them explore new genres or gain basic music theory and audio skills.

  • Voice lessons can be a fantastic addition to homeschooling curriculums. Singing nurtures creativity, enhances musical skills, builds confidence, and provides a well-rounded arts education. Whether you want to enrich your child's understanding of music or give them a fun and expressive outlet, private voice lessons offer personalized guidance tailored to their unique learning style.

  • Not only can they expand your vocal range, but they also enhance articulation, projection, and overall performance skills. These abilities go beyond the stage—helping students communicate more clearly and confidently in all areas.

  • Many students sign up for voice lessons, simply because they enjoy singing. Voice lessons are an excellent option for people who want to foster their love for singing and music.

About Marissa

Hello! I’m Marissa Conniff, and I would love to be your voice teacher. Singing has been my lifelong passion, and I’m excited to share that love with others through teaching.

As a voice teacher, I’m dedicated to helping students feel more confident in their voices. Whether you’re just starting out or already an experienced singer, my lessons are designed to be fun, engaging, and educational. We’ll explore your voice with a focus on curiosity, trust, intuition, and, of course, plenty of laughs along the way!

I work with singers of all genres, abilities, and ages, helping each student develop their unique vocal skills in a way that suits them best. I offer lessons at Oz’s Music in Ann Arbor and online.

As a singer, I’ve been at it my whole life! I did my first show when I was seven and went on to study theatre at Eastern Michigan University. I was also selected for the Motown Museum's Amplify the Sound of Detroit program, where I received professional voice, performance, and artist development training. Now, I perform with my band, Marissa & the Starter Packs, and we’ve had the pleasure of playing at various venues and music festivals throughout Southeast Michigan. I even take voice lessons myself because I believe in continually growing and learning!

I’ve had many different voice teachers, music directors, and choir directors throughout my journey. I understand how personal and exciting singing can be. Let me help you take your voice to new heights!
